How many times have we all started this fitness journey, full of hope and gung-ho, that this time will be IT!!!??? We may go strong for a week or 2, then a set-back (illness, exhaustion, a crazy weekend) Then, its back to sqare 1. Often accompanied by thoughts like “I’m SUCH a loser! How did I let myself fail AGAIN?? Its never gonna happen, maybe I’m meant to be overweight” ???
Until we get OUT of that pattern of thinking, we can never move fwwd and become the person we are truely MEANT to be. To get strong on the outside, we 1st need to be strong on the inside! If your 1st instiinct is “I’ll never do this”, that’s what’s going to give you permission to hit the snooze button, have a whole row of cookies, instead of just 2. Cancel your membership, buy pants the next size up , etc, ect. ect. If we BELIEVE that we are capable of change, than we WILL be. But if we believe we are going to fail-we will fullfill that instead.
Two of my favorite quotes, “whether you think you CAN, or think you CAN’T, either way, YOUR RIGHT!!!” and from the Biggest Loser’s 1st female winner (who has kept the weight off for 4 years:) “1st I wanted to do it, then I BELIEVED I could do it, THEN , I did it”. IT’S all about your mindset!! So, when that alarm goes off in the a.m.-instead of saying”ohh-its too early, I’m going back to bed.” How about trying, “This is the 1st day I prove the old me wrong, and go kick some butt!” That’s what I’ll be thinking tomorrow-how bout you?

BE NICE!!! To yourself, that is! Why is it so hard? I was celebrating a friends 40th a few weeks back and as we all remarked on how nice eachother looked, whose haircut was flattering or shoes were fabulous, I realized something-not ONE of us could take a compliment!!! We all resolved to make that a goal, and just be nicer to ourselves in general. I have to say, its been pretty amazing!! By not beating myself up in the 1st place, I’ve found that I’m not eating emotionally to comfort/punish myself as a result. Its been wonderful-I’ve WANTED to work out harder, eat better, and its done wonders for my self esteem. Instead of beating myself up if I slip up, I shrug it off, and go on with my day. If I miss a workout, I don’t make it an issue, I just get right back on track the next day.And I’m finding its made me want to do everything better! I’m being nicer to my husband, I have more energy for my son, I feel like I’m living in the moment for the 1st time EVER!! So give it a try-be nice to yourself and you’ll find that everyone else will do the same.
A word about junk food-As I was watching the Biggest Loser this a.m. and heard what the celeb chef was saying about fast food, it made me think of an analogy. If there was a fast, conveinient, less expensive type of gas, but you knew that it would make your car drive slower and was slowly rotting the engine, would you fill your tank anyway? There’s a reason why we call junk food “JUNK” Its making us fat, clogging our arteries, raising our cholesterol, and stealing our energy. Think that over when someone passes the bowl of Cheetos (What ARE those things, anyway?) Take the time to make yourself healthier foods that you enjoy and that make you feel GOOD-not bloated or gulity or stuffed. You deserve it!

We’ve added a new element to the program based on a great book by Victoria Moran called ”Fit from within”. It deals with the emotional/spiritual/mental facets of getting to a healthy weight. We’re learning alot about ourselves and how to get rid of the yo-yo mentality once and for all.
For those of you who haven’t been- the vibe @ the studio-supportive, friendly, light-hearted, but hard-working, sweaty and determined, its everything I dreamt of and more! So if any of you know of someone who is struggling to feel better about herself, please refer her to our program-its really something special, thanks to the amazing ladies who are part of it!
